It’s essential to have your labour and delivery essentials packed and ready in advance. Here’s what you’ll need:
1. Comfortable Clothing for Labour
- Loose, comfortable clothes such as a nightgown or robe that’s easy to move in.

2. Personal Toiletries
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and hairbrush to freshen up.
- Lip balm to prevent chapped lips due to dry hospital air.
- A face washer or facial wipes to feel refreshed.
3. Snacks and Drinks
- Bring light snacks such as fruit, crackers, or nuts to keep your energy up during early labour (check with your hospital for their food policies).
- Water bottle to stay hydrated.
- A straw to sip comfortably during contractions.
4. Birth Plan and Important Documents
- Copies of your birth plan, if you’ve written one.
- Your hospital paperwork and identification (health insurance, Medicare Card ID, etc.).
5. Comfort Items
- Nice smelling lotions or oils, a favourite pillow, or soft music to create a calming atmosphere.
